Length/scope: Depends how much the bidder contributes. I will beta 500 words per $1 donated — the words can all be in one fic or spread across multiple fics (e.g. two 5k fics for a $20 donation). Estimated wordcount is fine for WIPs but please try to be generous about your estimate! Minimum Bid: $5

Fan labor details: I've been a hockey fan for about 15 years, and I have accrued a LOT of knowledge about the game, the culture, the logistics of different leagues and development paths in North America, and just general lore around the NHL. I would gladly serve as a sounding board for questions of this sort or help you work those details into your fic. If you're not North American and are nervous about cultural details, I can help you with those for fics set here, in Canada or the US.

I am happy to offer feedback on any part of the writing process: pre-writing/plotting, worldbuilding, pacing, characterization, spelling and grammar, writing style, etc. I can give detailed feedback on or help workshop specific scenes or story elements, and/or overall notes on a complete draft. I really love working with people who are excited about working with a beta to help make their fic the best it can be, but I can also take more of a backseat role and only offer specific, asked-for feedback.

Relevant experience/background: I've been writing fic and betaing for friends for 20+ years, and also do a fair bit of writing, editing and proofreading in my professional life.

Especially interested in: This is an offer for any NHL team(s) or player(s) provided they do not fall under my unwilling to address. There are definitely teams/players/pairings I am more into or familiar with — right now I'm particularly into fic about the Panthers, Oilers, Canucks, pretty much anything in the greater Tkachuk bros/Hughes bros/USNTDP fic ecosystem — but I am more than willing to get out of my box and beta fic about YOUR little guy or rare pair or whatever (provided they do not fall under my unwilling to address)! I am also willing to beta fic about North American minor leages/junior leagues/college hockey.

Unwilling to address: I will not beta fic about a player who has been credibly accused or convicted of sexual assault or domestic violence. This includes: Ian Cole, Casey DeSmith, Drew Doughty, Evander Kane, Patrick Kane, Logan Mailloux, Mike Riberio, Semyon Varlamov, Jake Virtanen, Slava Voynov, Austin Watson, Milan Lucic, or members of Canada’s 2018 WJC team who have not been cleared of involvement in that incident, regardless of whether they were charged. If there is a player who falls into this category who I have failed to list, please consider that an accidental omission and not an exception to the rule. I additionally will not write other players who were on the Blackhawks during the Kyle Beach incident. Please do not ask me to beta fic with Tony DeAngelo, Jordan Binnington, Jamie Benn, Brendan Lemieux, or Mitch Marner as a main character.

I am probably not the best person you want to beta your Penguins fic (Caps fan, sorry) but if you REALLY want me to for somer reason I will work with you.

Feel free to peruse it to see if you feel like our interests would be a good fit, but please don't feel like your fic HAS to be about something on my likes list for me to be excited about betaing it. If your fic is about something on my DISLIKES list, PLEASE message me before bidding to make sure I will be comfortable working on it!

If your fic heavily features WAGs, please message me before bidding to make sure I'm comfortable with the premise.

I will do my best to give feedback in a timely fashion but may have a few short stretches where I am less available, and will let you know when those are happening. I would prefer to chat via Discord and beta in gdocs but can work with you if you prefer other platforms!
